About
Aliyah grew up performing, starting in local community-theater productions at age 8. She participated in over 12 productions from ages 8-16 including, but not limited to: "The Wizard of Oz", "Godspell" x2, "Little Shop of Horrors", "Grease", "Willy Wonka", "A Christmas Carol", "Carousel" & many more. From there Aliyah became a GoGo dancer at age 18, starting at Twin River Casino in Rhode Island and then becoming a resident dancer at club Royale in Boston where she danced for 4 years. She is now a resident dancer with Onyxx Performance Group out of Boston. Aliyah also started working with Rhode Island based performance art company TEN31 in 2017-ish. There she did corporate + private events, conventions & festivals working as a character actor doing many different characters including marble-statues, trees, china-dolls, the statue of liberty, a witch, living red-carpet, lava-lamp dancer, dancing lemon-vine, & a topiary flower character. Aliyah also has a lot of experience with being body-painted live & for video projects. In 2018, Aliyah started a performance art group called the Movement Medicine Collective (see more on her website). Aliyah is a performance artist at heart.

Philosophy
Performance art creates a unique container for deep connection, self expression, collaboration & story-telling. A performance artist has the opportunity to connect with the audience through divine self expression, collaboration with other performers and/or audience members & tell a story with their performance. I have been both the performer; feeding off the energy of the audience & letting that energy fuel that individual performance, and I have been the audience member; making eye-contact with the performer & being sucked into their story or just admiring them in their flow-state. I seek to test the boundaries of what performance art can mean.
